Desert Essence

Any woman embarking on an eco-friendly lifestyle should research how many toxic chemicals they are around each and every single day. Whether eating chemicals in food, from plastic containers or something as simple as the creams and lotions we use on our skin. As women we’re told to cleanse, tone and moisturize. To look our best, and if we want to prevent premature skin aging then get a moisturizer with an SPF but all these things conventionally contain toxic chemicals that could do us more harm than good. How about switching to more natural products instead?

Desert Essence has been manufacturing skin products for over 30 years and was the first company to introduce tea tree oil into the United States. It’s been the companies goal to produce natural beauty care products for today’s most health conscious consumers. Desert Essence supports a federation of plantation farmers who have signed a pledge not to use any artificial pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. They are a cruelty free company, no animal testing is performed on the raw materials or finished products. In addition to this the company has made a pledge to reduce any negative impact their products may have on the environment by offsetting their carbon footprint, there is a “wind power” seal on all the Desert Essence products.

New Organic Line – Recently Desert Essence launched it’s new Organics range, with natural and organic ingredients. All of the organics range of products are free of parabens, sodium laurel sulfate, phthalates, artificial colors, silicone’s, EDTA, glycol and petroleum based ingredients. In addition to that the organics range is 100% vegan.

Our family has been using Desert Essence products for some time now, specifically the:

daily essential facial moisturizer – Personally I love this moisturizer. Having combination skin, and having to shower sometimes 2-3 times a day for work (fitness instructor) my skin can dry out very quickly, but this moisturizer really nourishes my skin. I use this for the day time under make-up and at night too. For a moisturizer that contains jojoba oil the texture isn’t oily at all, and my skin always feels refreshed on application. I actually have two containers of this moisturizer, one in the bathroom and one in my gym/travel bag, I highly recommend it!

thoroughly clean face wash – Hands down this is my favorite face wash EVER. Had I known about this during my teens I am sure breakouts would have been a thing of the past. This face wash comes in 3 sizes, 8oz bottle with a pump (great for bathrooms), 4oz travel size, and a 32oz refill bottle. Initially I thought that with the tea tree oil this facial wash would be quite drying but it works perfectly at balancing my skin without it feeling tight or dry. We have the 8oz pump with the 32oz refill in our bathroom, and if I ever find a 4oz size locally I’ll be getting one for my travel bag for sure!

jojoba oil - this is great for dry hands and feet, or occasionally a full body massage. I have used it to remove make-up and it works great. On the Desert Essence website they claim that it can be used as a hot oil hair treatment so I’m looking forward to trying that next!

tea tree oil blemish touch stick - great for those occasional break out blemishes. This is a must have in our bathrooms as it not only works for blemishes but insect bites and other skin irritations. I find that the blemish is usually gone in 2-3 days with regular application. This is also one product that goes a LONG way.

Facial cleansing pads – I don’t use these often, maybe once or twice a week. They provide gentle exfoliation whilst giving a deep cleanse. These are great for traveling when a pump bottle isn’t an option. I tend to use these whilst camping etc. They claim to improve the texture, clarity and radiance of your skin and in my experience this is definitely true!

Whenever I need new beauty/skin products I know to look for Dessert Essence, I can guarantee them to be free of harmful chemicals and petroleum products but also great for my skin! One thing I will say though is don’t buy them from the Dessert Essence website, I found the best value is to purchase from your local Trader Joe’s. As much as a 50% saving on some items like the cleansing pads. I definitely recommend them to anyone, keep beautiful and keep lowering that carbon footprint!
