Lori Burley’s fire hose belt is an interesting piece of work for a few different reasons. While it may not be something that really fits all seasons, it is at least something different that offers a unique take on something that most people don’t even really think that much about. If you are looking for a unique way to do something a little different with your wardrobe, then you should seriously consider looking into this firehose belt.

The first thing that’s great about it is obviously that it is a recycled item. The designer uses old fire hoses that are past due. While this may seem like something you wouldn’t want, you have to keep in mind that a “used” fire hose is not really the same thing as a “used” sock. This is because fire stations are required to cycle out their fire hoses after either a certain number of uses, or a certain amount of time. Even if the hose is never used, it still needs to be cycled out due to safety concerns. This means that these perfectly good materials are being unnecessarily wasted. Until they’re turned into belts, that is.

Also, there is something fairly unique about this belt that you really can’t get with anything else. Not only is it made out of recycled materials, but the style of it is really suitable for just about any type of outfit. It’s a unique piece, but it’s not overstated in its uniqueness. It doesn’t scream “look at me”, but it also doesn’t scream “look away” if you catch what I’m saying.

While we all understand the importance of “up-cycling” old things into new, usable forms, it’s important to keep things realistic. Who wants to walk around with a hideous belt that draws nothing but scorn and derision? This is a great way to get a functional, attractive accessory that won’t burden you with worries about image.
