If you have many active sporting hobbies like our family does you’ll probably be aware of the environmental impact every season as you are bombarded with adverts, fliers, and catalogs to buy new equipment. Not only is this damaging to the environment it’s also damaging to your pocket book! Whilst winter still has a grasp on the country many folks are headed out on the slopes to catch some fresh powder after the recent storms. We’ve only really been skiing/snowboarding for a few years and renting equipment as a newbie or beginner is a great environmentally friendly option. My husband has his own board etc for a few years, but myself being a new boarder I held off with rented equipment for a while, but during the busy season it’s a gamble as to whether the resorts will run out, especially if you are a peculiar size (like me). So last year I decided to invest in my own board, bindings and boots. Instead of buying new products we took the eco-conscious route and headed to our local Play It Again Sports. These stores help save money and the environment by offering new and used sports equipment and gear making sports affordable. Our local branch had this board complete with bindings for $70, and I found the boots in the same store for $35.
$105 for pre-owned equipment and I am set up for many seasons ahead. Not only environmentally friendly as it’s pre-owned but I’ll save a bundle on rentals as the average cost of renting is $35 a time here in Southern California, 3 visits to the slopes and this purchase pays for itself! There is something to be said for having your own sports equipment, you get used to it, you “bed it in” to your own style, and when looked after can outlast you!
Play it again Sports is a great resource for used sports equipment, they can help you trade your quality used fitness equipment in for something new, used or for cash! They buy and sell all kinds of sporting equipment including treadmills, baseball, snowboarding and motocross! There really is something for everyone! This kind of store is great for those families with sporty children. Kids really do grow like weeds and as they grow their sports gear needs upgrading too, having access to used equipment and gear really reduces their environmental impact and helps save some greenbacks too! You can find more details of Play It Again Sports buy/donate system on their website.
Now is a great time for checking out used winter sports equipment as consumers are purchasing new items and donating their old equipment, so head to your local Play it Again Sports and see what they have to offer!
