Eco Friendly Cleaners

Here are two cleaning products that are environmentally friendly and very easy to make at home. The solutions are simple and non toxic.  The added bonus, as with many eco-friendly products, is that the ingredients are cheap and readily available at any store. Most of them are likely to be already at home. As they are natural, both of the solutions are not poisonous.  If the odor is too pungent for your liking, drops of essential oil can be used to counteract the smell to produce a nicer aroma. Lemongrass, lavender, or peppermint are just some of the many different oils that can be added to make the smell pleasant and to your preference.  The instructions are very straight-forward, and can be passed along to friends and relatives as they should be encouraged to use them as well. And with only a few days left in the Christmas shopping system, they certainly make good gifts for those in your life who want to make a difference, or need help getting started.

All Purpose Cleaner

This solution is an all purpose cleaner and can remove dirt from most surfaces, including floors, walls,

In order to make about 24 ounces, combine the following:

2 cups water

1/2 cup acetic acid

1/6 cup baking soda

1/6 cup lemon juice

5-10 drops essential oil

- Dilute acids with water and then mix in baking soda.  It will start to fizzle a lot, so pour baking soda in slowly.  Let the solution sit until carbonation has settled before adding in essential oils.  Close the container.

If ingested, simply drink water and eat food in order to absorb the solution.

Window Cleaner:

In order to make about 22 ounces, combine the following:

2/3 cups isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol-store bought at 70%

2 cups water

1 tablespoon vinegar

5-10 essential oil (optional)

If you prefer not to use alcohol, a one to one
vinegar/water solution also works well. However, the alcohol is a good
disinfectant and is more effective.

If ingested, simply drink water and eat food in order to absorb the solution.   The alcohol content is at a low
concentration as it will not harm you. Unless of course you drink the
whole bottle.

So make a label just in case.
