Reynolds Recycled Aluminum Foil

Whilst browsing the weekly grocery circulars this week I came across an ad for Reynolds Recycled Foil. Maybe this has been around for a while? Maybe I just haven’t seen them because I don’t use foil that often in my cooking but here it was staring me in the face, another great eco-alternative to traditional products.  Whilst I realize that most eco-friendly option would be to not use the aluminum foil altogether sometimes that isn’t an option. In our household we don’t use much foil, but when camping it is the convenience and cleanliness aspect that draws me to using aluminum foil, and now I can use the recycled foil knowing I am one step closer to reducing my carbon footprint!

Reynolds aluminum foil is a food-safe foil made from a mixture of post-consumer aluminum and industrial aluminum. It has the same durability and strength as the regular non-recycled aluminum foil. Their online fact sheet and website information states that:

  • Manufacturing and buying recycled-content products creates a circle, or loop, that ensures the overall success and value of recycling
  • Over the life cycle of the product, the process of making aluminum foil from recycled aluminum uses 80 percent less energy than it takes to make aluminum foil from new, also referred to as virgin, aluminum
  • The post consumer aluminum recycled content may include items such as
stadium seats, automobile components, cookware, gutters and siding.
  • The
post-industrial content includes scraps from industrial cable.
  • Packaging/Core – Made from 100 percent recovered paper that is diverted from the solid waste stream, then collected, separated, cleaned and recycled for use
  • The process also produces fewer emissions, including greenhouse gases, and reduces the amount of landfill waste.
  • Printing Inks – Reynolds uses water-based inks on product packaging

The other great news is that the Reynolds Recycled Aluminum Foil can also be recycled after use after use. However you need to check that your local recycling facility accepts aluminum foil. Contact your local recycling station, pick up or check out earth911.org to find recycling locations in your area.

The MSRP for the Reynolds recycled aluminum foil is $2.99 for 50 sq ft, but prices may vary store to store. However right now Reynolds has an online printable coupon available on their website for 50cents of your next purchase, simply enter your information and then print the coupon from your computer.
