Oh the Joys of Ceramic

So, if there’s one thing in this world that I really love, it’s coffee. I make sure to get my coffee from sustainably, fairly sourced farmers all the time, so don’t give me grief about what the coffee industry does to local communities. Places like Folgers get their coffee from those kinds of places– not me. ANYWAY, the point is that I love coffee, but I always hate buying it when I’m out because of two things.

First, I hate those disposable containers. Not only are they a waste of resources, but they always seem to leak through if the coffee is in there too long. Second, I really hate those reusable containers that are mostly on the market. The mechanisms always get gunked up, and they are extremely difficult to really clean. Unless, of course, you want to soak them– which I don’t. This is why I’m such a huge fan of the ceramic travel mugs that are showing up everywhere.

You’ve probably seen them before. They’re ceramic and shaped like a regular coffee cup. The kicker is that they use a silicone topper, so it’s reusable and very easy to wash. The thing that I really love about mine is that it is a very cool way to save on your waste, while also enjoying a comfortable brew of coffee.

The thing is that the mugs are much easier on your hands than a regular paper cup, which means you don’t have to worry about burning yourself on the hot paper with a new cup. Being ceramic, they are very easy to clean and they don’t impart a plastic-y taste like most of the other reusable coffee containers on the market.

With all of the waste we see on a daily basis in our country, it only makes sense to do what we can to mitigate that waste. By using one of these, you can take a low-cost step toward lowering your impact while getting something GENUINELY useful.
