In the most recent article you learned how to make your own homemade eco-friendly diaper rash salve for your baby. Ever thought about making your own baby wipes? What about baby wipes that are eco-friendly? Sounds pretty neat, doesn’t it? What’s even nicer is that you don’t have to worry about your favorite store running out of baby wipes, just simply make them yourself. They aren’t terribly hard to make either. In the long run both your baby and the environment will be thanking you with a great big smile for taking such good care of them.
Follow the following recipe to learn how to make your own eco-friendly baby wipes:
How to Make Safe and Eco-Friendly Baby Wipes
What you will need:
Several flannel baby blankets cut into small wipe-sized squares (thin baby washcloths can be used but are not as soft on babyçs bottom)
Spray bottle or water bottle
Experiment with different combinations of the basic mix and additives listed below. After finding a solution to your liking, store it in a spray bottle or squirt bottle. When changing baby, it helps to try and remove most of the solid waste with the soiled diaper first. Either spray babyçs bottom directly or squirt solution on fabric wipe. Clean as required.
The Basic Mix:
2 cups of water
2 tbsp organic baby soap
Add:
1 tbsp of an essential oil such as calendula, lavender, tea tree or apricot Aloe Vera gel.
Some Additional Tips:
Store cut up fabric in a recycled wipe container.
Keep soiled wipes separate from other laundry as the moisture may foster mold.
Some moms may wish to hem the fabric squares to maintain shape and limit fraying.
