Costa Rica is between Nicaragua and Panama. It could never be an island. Look at Central American map, or google it.

"We have the opportuity to harness wind, wave and solar power but we dont because residents complain that these giant contraptions are an eye sore."

I'm really not sure where you get that idea from. More than sixty percent of New Zealand's electricity is from renewable resources, and they are working to build more wind farms etc. Unfortunately, the ability to use renewable resources is affected by environmental factors such as low rain fall, but New Zealand as a country is very committed to finding ways to use as many renewable resources as possible. Hydro Dams are popular tourist stops as are wind farms and it's not like they are placed in the middle of cities, so I don't know where you get the idea that people complain about them.

As a Swiss citizen, I am naturally pleased to see my country at the top of the list. For a long time,we have had a reputation for being a very clean place to live. There is a lot of emphasis on personal responsibility for the care of our very smal country as well as the political willll to make things happen. it\'s too bad that this formula seems difficult to export to larger countries. Maybe it has to do with our political system as well.
I wish I had the answer.
