National Environmental Education Week

April 12th, 2010 BY dalgal | No Comments

This week is National Environmental Education Week (EE Week), the nation’s largest environmental education event held each year the week before Earth Day. Environmental education week is aimed at inspiring environmental learning and stewardship amongst k-12 students promoting understanding of the environment. EE Week is a program of the National Environmental Education Foundation. Running from April 11th-17th the theme for EE Week 2010 is “Be water and energy wise”.

Our nation’s water and energy resources are increasingly important
topics of discussion not just in the news, but in classrooms and homes
as well. Recognizing the importance of conserving both water and energy
to protect the planet and reduce costs — and acknowledging the
connection between water and energy — EE Week’s 2010 theme is Be Water and
Energy Wise.

Focusing on Energy and Water for 2010 is a great way to introduce environmental impact to our children. On the EE Week website there are webpages with fact sheets, lesson plans and  videos about the water-energy connections. There is also a PDF on water and energy wise tips available in both English and Spanish as well as more resources for teachers, parents and students alike.

By registering to participate in EE Week 2010 you join a national network of educators dedicated to increasing the environmental literacy of students. You can also receive:

  • Certificates of Participation;
  • Monthly e-newsletters packed with EE resources for educators;
  • Access to an online library of environmental curricula and EE resources;
  • Opportunities to network and communicate with other educators who have successfully integrated environmental education into the curriculum;
  • The opportunity to participate in EE Week’s spring 2010 webinar: Teaching the Water-Energy Connection; and
  • Discounts and special offers for educational materials.

EE Week website is a great resource for teachers, home school programs and parents alike. Even those without children can spread the word and pass along the information to those who may not know of such a great program at educating our children about the environment and our impact on it. EE Week would be a great introduction of environmental awareness for kids of any age and we can never start to early with educating our children!

Projects like EE Week increase environmental awareness to all, not just children so why not see how you can get involved today?
