For many years now the debate over whether or not organic products are better for has been waging. Reports coming out every month it seems contradict each other as to whether organic truly is better, well the results are really clear when it comes to eggs! It’s organic all the way, better for your health and better for the health of the chickens laying the egg!
Nutritionally Better
Mother Earth News compared eggs from U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutrient data for commercial eggs and organic eggs, and found that
compared to commercial eggs the eggs from hens raised on pasture may contain:
• 1⁄3 less cholesterol
• 1⁄4 less
saturated fat
• 2⁄3 more vitamin A
•
2 times more omega-3 fatty acids
• 3 times more
vitamin E
• 7 times more beta carotene
Here, we finally have proof, not only is the organic pasture raised eggs better for the chicken, but it’s better for your health too! These organic free ranging chickens were given access to pasture and supplementing their diet with organic feed
ingredients that provide natural methionine. Methionine is an essential amino acid vital to poultry health. It is not produced by the body and must be attained through diet.
Vitamin D
Current thinking amongst doctors and researchers is that the USDA’s current recommended daily amount of Vitamin D may be too low. Consider then the news that these pasture raised organic eggs also contained 4-6 times more vitamin D than typical supermarket eggs! If you are already deficient in vitamin D then buying organic free range eggs would be a great move for your overall health!
Common Sense
Surely it’s basic common sense that organic produce free from preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, pesticides etc is naturally going to be more nutritious than conventionally manufactured produce? How can it not be? Having done a taste test at home I can tell you that 100% of the people I’ve tested with organic vs conventional grown produce tasted the difference and preferred organic. Long term studies need to be done on how these chemicals we ingest through our foods are affecting our bodies.
How you can act
The Organic Consumers Association is taking action against United Egg Producers (UEP) and the pressure they are applying to change ‘organic’ status, they are claiming that organic is not nutritionally better and trying to edge out the organic out of the market. On the UEP website they state that
“While farmers produce all types of eggs (regular, cage-free, organic) to
meet consumer and market place demand, right now Americans prefer
“regular” eggs produced in modern, sanitary cage systems by a margin of
95% based upon their purchases and consumption statistics.”
How can these modern sanitary cage systems be better? And who in America really thinks they are? Really? Birds crammed into cages no bigger than the size of a computer monitor screen, often multiple birds per cage, this is better than chickens roaming free? If you agree with the Organic Consumers Association, please consider signing their petition or simply hit the United Egg Producers where it hurts by voting with your pocketbook! Say no to commercial eggs and go with organic free ranging eggs.

That word “may” is a big red flag dude; any one can say “may” The question is; are they is it true. When you say “may” it basically says I don’t know or I can’t scientifically say it is true. So the BS continues????
