While not exactly the camper/backpacker’s new friend, the Solar Ibex is an amazing alternative to the tradition gas or electric stove. The Solar Ibex is a high-performance, outdoor, user friendly solar cooker with an auto-tracking sun ray concentrator. Of course it isn’t going to be like using the modern home stove. Without temperature controls or timer (not to mention the whole being outside thing), you can forget about cooking those frozen ready-made meals. On the other hand, the spouses of chili and stew enthusiasts may have found the perfect gift. According to their website, the Solar Ibex allows for adjustable cooking times and can heat up to 300 degrees Celsius, which makes it an amazing off-grid solution for most cooking, boiling, and baking needs. Foldable, lightweight, and powered by renewable energy (i.e. the sun), the Ibex is an excellent tool for use at base camps for climbing expeditions, alpine retreats, and remote settlements. The makers assert that by not relying on depleting recourse, the Ibex will reduce weight and fuel consumption. Clean, green, and fuel free, the Solar Ibex sounds like the perfect stove.
