An easy way to save valuable resources is to use less water showering. But since there is no standard time for a shower, there really isn’t a rule of thumb. After all, a person with long hair will probably need more shower time than someone sporting a slick appearance, and a large person could arguably need more time than a tiny one. The best shower time really depends on the circumstances.

Custom Showers

This is why I think the Waterpebble is such a great device. The Waterpebble cleverly adjusts to your shower, and without any complicated setup required. In fact, you’ll probably find the weterpebble to be very easy to use in a shower environment. So how does it work?

All you have to do is set the Waterpebble down by the drain hole. The first time it is used the device will monitor the shower and record the total time spent. From that point on, the Waterpebble will nudge you to take shorter showers through the use of its simple interface – embedded glowing lights. The unit will glow green when you start the shower, fading to amber when you are halfway through it, and you probably have guessed what the red glow indicates. Yes, time’s up. And the time will slowly shorten over multiple uses until you are taking a more economical shower.

The unit can be reset as needed, in case you need to change your habit or circumstances. And when the Waterpebble finally outlives its usefulness it too can be recycled.

Small Changes, Big Payout

So, are there any real advantages to monitoring and shortening shower times? Well, the first payout is obvious – you could gain precious time on those hectic mornings. After all, it is easy to be going over the day to come in your mind and spend too much time in the shower. With the nudge you get out quicker, and just maybe you can get a real breakfast for a change.

Of course, there are also valuable water resources saved as well from a shorter shower. By trimming the showering time by one minute a family of four could save over 12,000 liters of water per year. Just imagine what would happen if every family would undertake the effort.

There are financial reasons to take a quicker shower as well. Some experts put the hot water portion of the home power bill at roughly 20% of the total. If that same family of four could cut the average shower down to three and a half minutes, they could save roughly $280 dollars a year.

So, taking a quicker shower can save you money, add time to your day, and save precious resources. The only problem is in actually doing it. And with something as easy and convenient to use as the Waterpebble, it might be one of the easiest and smartest things you can do.
