As an eco-friendly consumer and an eco-conscious person I find that living this lifestyle is all about balance. When someone asks me what they can do to help lower their carbon footprint, I can talk about changing habits, lowering energy usuable, buying sustainable products but the fact is that sometimes we cannot change certain things without sacrificing the person we are inside. For example, I use recycled products where possible, I strive to reduce, reuse and recycle, we're a vegetarian family, we conserve energy, compost, grow our own food and yet people are shocked when we tell them that we dirtbike as a hobby. After all dirtbiking damages the environment, it pollutes, ...

As eco-friendly consumers we know that one of the biggest eco 'sins' is to use plastic carrier bags. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency in 2001 on U.S. plastic bag, sack, and wrap consumption, between 500 billion and a trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide each year! More stores are realizing the impact of the plastic bags they provide and offer a ...
As part of becoming more eco-friendly and on a mission to lower our carbon footprint we should be taking advantage more of our local community and all it has to offer. One way in which to do this is to utilize your local library. Personally I've been a member of libraries my whole life. My passion for reading starting in early childhood which led to my love of libraries. When we moved countries, visiting the local library was one of the first stops on my quest to learn more about the local area and to join so I could continue my love of reading/learning whilst reducing my impact on the environment.

As an eco-friendly consumer knows the three R's (reduce, reuse and recycle) are listed in order of importance. I'm sure we're all recycling where possible and reusing, but what about reducing? Where to start? How about with something that plagues every home in the country? Junk mail! We all do it, we're excited headed off to the maibox with the thoughts of correspondence only to discover credit card applications, catalogues and random mail for previous tenants/homeowners etc. How about doing something to reduce this paper mail before it ends up in the recycle bin or heaven forbid the landfill?
